Meeting this Sunday, 13 Oct

First, a huge thank you to Brian and all the Brother Knights that worked so hard to make the "A Knight Out" a great success.  I haven't heard a final number of funds raised for the Richards family, but the event was well attended and I know everyone was generous with their support.

Even with some exciting Boston sports going on this weekend, please try and fit the Knights of Columbus meeting into your schedule.  We will have our usual business meeting at the St. Mary's Convent on Sunday evening at 6pm.  A number of upcoming items to discuss:
  • Essay contest for St. Mary's and St. John's School- this years topic is "The Importance of Religious Freedom"
  • Need to develop plan for Tootsie Roll sale- we missed the window for this weekend need to find the next best opportunity
  • Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, 24 Nov at the Victorri-Rocci Post
  • Membership, membership, membership
Hope to see you guys Sunday evening, call me if you have any questions or ideas on other events/ actions for the Knights to work on.

Planning for "A Knight Out"

Good news fellow Knights, The Family of Martin Richard has given us their full endorsement for our A Knight Out fundraiser. Thursday night the 15th of August Brian, Peter & Neil met with the present & past GK's of the Salem Council and planning for the event really started. Our knight out will feature live music, catered buffet and a silent Auction.
I need someone to head up the donation end of the silent auction right away. We will be collecting and cataloging donations from many councils so someone with an extra room and good organization skills is a must.
I have invited GK's and DGK's from thirteen area councils to attend our next planning meeting on August 29, all Knights are welcome to come and contribute.
See you all at the business meeting this Thursday.

Update from Grand Knight Brian Butler

Greetings fellow knights, good news. At our last business meeting we decided to explore the costs associated with providing Fr. Barnes a new set of vestments for his college ministry.  Brother Knight Bill Rosser went to explore this with Andrew Lane in Peabody, found a donor who paid the entire cost and made the purchase.  At our business meeting this Sunday, Aug 11 at 6pm, we will discuss when and how to present these to our former Chaplain.

New news, I made a tour of the former St. Margaret's School (used most recently by the Waldorf School) with Fr. Mahoney and Peter on Saturday.  His immediate needs are the removal of a rug from the school hall and removing and capping off the two wet sinks in the same hall.  This is about 20 hours of work for one man, 10 hours for two 5 hours for 4 or a real short couple of hours for a group.  Many, many painting opportunities exist and can be dealt with as an on going program for the Knights.  We have offered in person to help the parish with this.

Is anyone available for a work project this Saturday, Aug 10?  I'll be contacting Fr. Mahoney for access so I can remove the sinks.  Any one who wants to work can email me at grandknight175@aol.com and we'll arrange times.

Vivat Jesus
Brian

Knights of Columbus Insurance

One of the many benfits to membership of the Knights of Columbus is access to the insurance products available to members and their families.

The founder of the Knights of Columbus, Father Michael J. McGivney, understood that the first duty of a Catholic husband and father is to his family — to care for their needs while alive and, to the best of his ability, to provide for their care in the event of his death.  He also knew well the tragic needs of Catholic families of the deceased men in his community.  Central to Father McGivney's founding vision for the Knights of Columbus was providing for the financial security of Catholic families, particularly the widows and orphans of deceased members.

The insurance agent for Council 175 is Mr. Joe McGrath, he can be reached 978-921-0968.
