Congratulations to Peter Jaquith and Paul Speidel, Grand Knight and Deputy Grand Knight elect. They begin their tenure over Beverly's Knights of Columbus July 1st. Thank you both for your service to Beverly and the Church.

Our 6th installment of Steaks and Stories takes place June 26th with Deacon Jim Greer. Please note the new schedule. 6:00 - 6:30 Meet & greet social; 6:30 Dinner; 7:00 our speaker Deacon Jim Greer; 8:00 Q & A with Deacon Greer; 8:15closing prayer. Thank you all for your support in the past. Please plan on attending this valuable collaborative wide speakers service sponsored by Beverly's Knights. Plans for A Knight Out, the Beverly Knights premier awards dinner are moving forward please keep September 19th free to attend. We are currently seeking nominations for the "Keeper Award". Given yearly by Beverly's Knights, the Keeper is given to that person who has proved by their actions that they are indeed their brother's keeper either by an act of unusual courage or in long term service to the community. For the second year Beverly's Knights have the Honor of carrying the canopy at the Corpus Christi procession. Knights Ferde Rombola, Neil Corcoran, Peter Jaquith and Sean McNamarra will attend Father Hocurscak as we process down Cabot Street following the 10:45 Mass at Saint Mary's

Future of Steaks & Stories

Greeting fellow knights,

It is decision time gentlemen.  Steaks and Stories will be held this month on the 26th when we welcome Deacon Jim Greer to speak at the convent. Last month a total of eight men & women showed for the evening. Honestly this level of support cannot continue. If we do not have 20 to 25 people committed to attending then this will be the end of this very worthwhile series.  It is time for this Council and this collaborative to decide if they are going to support S & S or if it will go by the wayside.

The Nomination requests have gone out to the surrounding towns for nominations for the Keeper Award. We have rented the K of C hall in Salem for the night of the 19th of September. It's time to start looking for donations for the silent auction. we need a sub committee to handle the auction. When nominations start to come in we'll need to meet to decide on and invite one or more nominees.

Our membership drive at St. Johns last month netted no new members. James Butler made his 1st degree on May 13th up in Gloucester. Let's keep thinking new members please, one new member per member per year is the goal.

May 22 Steaks and Stories with Scot Landry

Steaks and Stories continues with Scott Landry this May 22nd at 7:00 PM.  Scot Landry will be our fifth speaker of the year. He is Executive Director of Catholic Voices USA and a host of The Good Catholic Life radio show.

Please plan on joining us for dinner, fellowship and stories.  This event takes place at the St. Mary Star of the Sea Convent at 15 Chapman Street in Beverly.  Parking is available in several nearby municipal parking lots and is free after 6:00pm.

This event is open to the public - you do not have to be a Knight to attend.

First of all I wish to thank all you who received me so warmly at St. John's last weekend during our recruitment drive. I spoke with many potential, current and former Knights. Our council 175 is covering the whole city and services the entire colaborative. Even so we do find ourselves fighting an image that we are St. Mary's Knights; this is not from design or desire. We held our drive only at St. Johns so as invite you in. Golf Tournament to benefit St Mary's School in Beverly

St Mary School in Beverly is having a golf fundraiser at The Beverly Golf and Tennis Club on June 2nd.  It really is a low key golf event that is a lot of fun.  The schools depend on these events of fund so much of their operating costs.  Let's show them what the Knights can do and try to come out in force.

Steaks and Stories this Sunday, including Raffle Drawing!

Great news, Thanks to brisk sales the Knights sale of 50/50 tickets is going well. We will draw the winner this Sunday, April 6 at our next Steaks and Stories. 

We are holding out 3rd Steaks & Stories event featuring a barbecue and talk by long time Beverly Collaborative friend Father Daniel Hennessey. Father Hennessey is the Director of the Office of Vocations in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston and friend and contemporary of Father Barnes. Steaks and stories is a dinner and lecture and social hosted by Beverly's Knights of Columbus and all are welcome. April Business, Spring 50/50, and Nominations for New Officers

Greetings Brother Knights, 

State Deputy Peter Healy will be present at our next Council 175 Business Meeting coming up on April 13th. His purpose is to present Council 175 with an award for our success in increasing membership last year. I hope all will attend and ask that we present ourselves in proper attire. Jack Decourcy suggests good business casual at the least. It's important that we can run a "proper" business meeting by then So I hope all offices, especially the Inside & Outside Guards, the DGK the FS, Recorder, Warden and Treasurer will get together with me either before or after our afternoon speakers event with Father Hennessey on the 6th. We will all be there already and 20 minutes invested will really help.

Tickets for our Spring 50/50 raffle are already being sold at Masses all over town, please make sure you contact Peter Jaquith, peterjaquith@comcast.net, to get your first 100 tickets. They are selling well, most people seem to want to part with $20 for our cause. They are one for $5, three for $10 and ten for $20. Last years winner took home more than $800 and we used our share to support the youth group as well as Saint Mary's and Saint John's Schools. The drawing  will take place on April 6th after our Steaks & Stories with Father Hennessey.

I need a committee to, or just let me know, appoint a slate of offices for next year. You can nominate yourself for any office or have another do so. My term as Grand Knight will be over and I will take my place as the 1st year Trustee. I will be nominating Peter to take my place and have heard from Financial Secretary Mike Talo that he will be remaining in his position( the Financial Secretary has a usual term of 3 years) for the coming year. We have done and will continue to do Great Things in the City of Beverly. Please prayerfully consider what you are able to give to our Council in terms of time and service. We do well to remember, He can never be out given in generosity.

March Update and Events with the Knights

Beverly’s Knights of Columbus will hold it’s monthly business meeting on Sunday March 16^th at 6:00 pm at the Convent. All are welcome at our Family Rosary at 5:30, come join us in praying for the families of Beverly.

We recently held our first social of 2014 called Steaks & Stories where Virginia Doocey, the Director of Catholic Charities North, gave an informative and inspiring talk. Our next Steak & Stories, featuring an Italian dinner cooked by Grand Knight Brian Butler, will be Thursday March 27^th, 6:30 PM at St. Mary’s Convent, when we welcome Michael Lavigne, Director of the Office of Lifelong Faith Formation and Parish Support.

Our Spring 50/50 raffle to support the charitable works of the Knights of Columbus begins this weekend. Knights will be on hand to sell raffle tickets at Saint John’s on 3/16; Saint Margaret’s on 3/22 & 3/23; and at Saint Mary’s on 3/29 & 3/30. Last year's winner took home over $800 and the Knights used their share to benefit the Youth Group, St John’s School and St. Mary’s school.  

Sunday 3/9 Meeting MOVED to Sunday 3/16

Many of our Knights will be attending the St. Mary's School Legacy Gala this Sunday evening, March 9.  Consequently, the regular 2nd Sunday of the month business meeting will be moved to the following week, Sunday March 16.  Same time and place, 6:00pm at the St. Mary Star of the Sea Convent at 13 Chapman Street, with family rosary at 5:40pm.

Dinner and Speaker this Thursday, February 27

Dinner at 7pm with a presentation at 8pm.  Our speaker is Virginia Doocey, Executive Director of the North Region of Catholic Charities.  Ms. Doocey's remarks will focus on Catholic Charities past, present and future mission. She will stress Catholic Charities' track record in transforming lives at every stage of the life cycle.

To take place at the St. Mary Star of the Sea Convent at 15 Chapman Street in downtown Beverly.  Please RSVP to GK Brian Butler at 978-927-4311.  A goodwill donation of $15 is requested to defray costs of the evening's catered dinner.

 The Knights of Columbus speakers' dinner program is open to both men and women beyond Council 175 and the Beverly Collaborative of Catholic parishes.  The Knights of Columbus Council 175 Speaker's Dinner Program "Steak and Stories" is scheduled for the fourth Thursday of each month through 2014.

The schedule of speakers through June, 2014 follows:

* March-Michael Lavigne, director, New Evangelization-Life Long Faith Foundation and Parish Support, Archdiocese of Boston;

*April- Father Daniel Hennessey, director, Vocations, Archdiocese of Boston, -Encouraging vocations and supporting seminarians;

* May-Scot Landry, former Secretary for Media, Archdiocese of Boston and current host Catholic Radio / Catholic Voices;

*June-Deacon James Greer, director, Pastoral Care, Archdiocese of Boston, outreach for hospitals,home care, those incarcerated in prisons, as well as bereavement care and suicide prevention programs.

After a summer hiatus the speakers program will resume in September.

The Council 175 Speakers Program was inspired by Grand Knight Brian Butler to shine a light on those working to transform lives and spread the Good News of the Gospel.
